Tears are a gift. They remind us of our humanity and that we are not called to only joy and happiness in this life, but struggle and suffering as well. To face hardship and trial is a gift of transformation that challenges us–sometimes to the depth of our being.
How can this be a gift you ask? Each hardship, if you allow it, alters your appreciation and love for what you have been given. It shapes your mind and soul with a lens of empathy for those who have and will experience similar trials. When you allow yourself to be transformed in these moments and hold onto joy after hardship, you often become a beacon of Hope for others.
“Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.” -Helen Keller
Hope (by) Challenge: Embrace your tears and allow yourself the true mourning needed. It may be a recent loss, or memories from hardships of the past. Acknowledge those difficulties and find the joys and moments of gratitude that have transpired because of that experience. Take the extra step to document these in a journal you can return to in future similar situations.
